Understanding Resistor Color Codes

4-Band Resistor: Two significant digits + multiplier + tolerance. Most common for ±5% and ±10% resistors.

5-Band Resistor: Three significant digits + multiplier + tolerance. Used for precision resistors (±1%, ±2%).

6-Band Resistor: Three significant digits + multiplier + tolerance + temperature coefficient. For high-precision applications.

Reading Direction: The tolerance band (gold/silver) is typically on the right. If uncertain, check which end has a band closer to the edge.

Tip: Memorize "BB ROY of Great Britain had a Very Good Wife" for the digit sequence (Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Gray, White).
